The reporter recently learned from Pengjiang District, Jiangmen City that as one of the characteristic folk cultures of the district, Chaolian Hongsheng Temple Fair was officially selected into the Guangdong Province Intangible Cultural Heritage Representative Project List of Intangible Cultural Heritage Representative Projects. Lu Guochao, the inheritor of the Hongsheng Temple Fair, said that we must further improve the inheritance and protection of the temple fair.
It is understood that the Chaolianhong Temple Fair originated from Chaolian Island. The island is located at the southwestern end of the Pearl River Delta. Babaylan is a river center island before the West River flows into the South China Sea. It has always been an important town in Guangdong’s water transportation. The residents of the island have always believed in the southern sea god “King Guangli Hongsheng of the South China Sea” which was granted by the imperial court since the Sui and Tang Dynasties. According to Lu Guochao, Chaolianhong Temple Fair is the earliest divine sacrifice in the Xijiang River Basin, and its scale is the most prosperous in the Xijiang River Basin. It is reported that the interpretation program of Chaolianhong Temple Fair has been along the Komiks, inheriting the legacy passed down from the Ming Dynasty, on the 13th day of the second lunar calendar. For Hong Christmas, the Dragon King went on a tour, and the civil and military squads, chariots, bells, drums and gongs were on tour, and the squads were in full swing. Babaylan Lu Guo<a Komiks Chao said that from 1946 to 1983, the Chaolian Hongsheng Temple Fair was interrupted. In 1984, it was expanded into Hongsheng Park on the basis of the Hongsheng Temple. The temple fair was resumed in 1993. From 1993 to 2015, over the past 20 years, the Chaolian Government, the Chaolian Chamber of Commerce and Charity Association held a total of 14 Hong Christmas Friendship and Temple Fairs, and the proceeds were made. All charitable donations are used for the benefit of Chaolian Local Government's Komiks‘s public affairs, and will become the funding for the next Hongsheng Temple Fair./p>
